Airbnb just announced a new feature where you can rent out a single room within a shared house.
👉 Background: We know Airbnb as the world’s most popular online marketplace for home stays and holiday experiences. The name Airbnb emerged because it started with a couple of housemates renting out an airmattress to make rent for their apartment.
👉 What happened: Now, Airbnb has just announced a new feature in their app, Airbnb Rooms, where you can rent out a single room within a shared house.
👉 What else: This change comes after travellers have been tightening their travel budgets. Not to mention that Airbnb has been roasted for the 'work' you need to do in the property. But the best part is, with this change Airbnb is taking its business back to where it started.
💡As they say, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. Over the last couple of years, Airbnb has explored a range of new verticals:
💡 This move is a bet back to its first offering - where people with a spare room exchanged it for cash. And they’re not the first company to go back to their core.
💡Apple started with computers but in the 90’s they started experimenting with other electronics like digital cameras and gaming consoles. But when the uptake wasn’t great, Apple refocused to it’s core offerings: iMac, iPads and iPhones.
