Australia Post announced its first full-year loss in over 7 years.
👉 Background: We know that Australia Post’s rep has taken a bit of a beating over the past 2 years. We're talking delayed parcels, lost parcels and loads of online complaints.
👉 What happened: And now, Australia Post has announced its first full-year loss in over 7 years (back when Fifty Shades of Gray was spicing up the cinemas). We’re talking a near 200% decline in profit.. in particular the letters division which lost $190m.
👉 What else: The Australia Post CEO even warned that the organisation is at a "crossroads". As a government business enterprise, Aus Post has also copped heat from politicians and union officials about these financial results.
💡 Government business enterprises in Australia face the difficult balance between serving the public while also managing the commercial aspects of running a business.
💡On the one hand, Aus Post is owned by the Australian government… on behalf of the Australian people. So despite the letters division burning a big. fat hole in its finances, it needs to run the division to 'serve' Australians.
💡But on the other hand, Aus Post needs to compete in the jobs market for top talent, manage its prices in line with competitors and try to keep its costs down as inflation rises.
