Cadbury is launching Rugby World Cup products and experiences... so your next chocolate block could come with a side of rugby fever

Cadbury is betting on Rugby World Cup fever to keep chocolate sales growing, turning its sponsorship into fan experiences and limited-edition treats.

What's the key learning?

  • Sponsorship only goes so far if customers don't engage with it.
  • Experiences give sponsorships more staying power.
  • Tapping into shared passions can help brands grow market share.

Background: Cadbury is the chocolate brand behind Dairy Milk, Caramilk and those dangerously easy-to-demolish Favourites boxes. And Cadbury has a huge presence in Australia. It uses 11% of Tasmania's entire milk supply and accounts for around 50% of Australia's chocolate market.

What happened: Now, Cadbury's going all in on rugby fever ahead of next year's Rugby World Cup, which Australia will host. The brand is launching limited-edition Rugby World Cup products, along with fan packages and in-person experiences designed to bring supporters closer to the tournament.

What else: Cadbury has had a strong year in Australia, with products like Biscoff Caramilk and its new &More range helping drive growth. Now, it's looking for fresh ways to keep consumers craving something new. Tapping into national sporting pride could help Cadbury win more hearts and stomachs... but it'll need to cut through the noise in the stands to make the sponsorship count.

What's the key learning?

💡 Sports sponsorship is more than slapping a logo on a team uniform. The sponsorship gets a brand through the door, but the activation is what helps make the investment pay off.

💡 Sponsorship activation is when a brand connects with customers and fans through experiences, events, and limited-edition products. Get this: 85% of working professionals in the US visited a company's website after attending a live activation.

💡 For Cadbury, connecting with a sport the whole nation gets behind is a chance to win over its fans. Brands that can create meaningful customer experiences are around 2.5 times more likely to increase their market share. So it could be a big win for Cadbury... especially if the Wallabies perform.
