Canva released its annualised revenue of $1.7 billlion USD and launched its $200 million Creator Fund.
👉 Background: Canva is the Australian-founded but globally-used graphic design platform that helps presentations go from 1990-vibes to 2050.
👉 What happened: Now, Canva has released its annualised revenue of $1.7 billion USD. But, what's more interesting is Canva's focus on AI and the launch of its $200 million Creator Fund.
👉 What else: Canva's Creator Fund will pay creators that allows Canva's generative AI model to train off their designs. And, this is a step forward for AI companies that are slowly starting to recognise where their bread is buttered.
💡AI tools benefit from the work of journalists or creative professionals, generally without any credit, recognition or compensation.
💡For example, OpenAI trawled over 100 trillion parameters to create its generative-AI model. And, many of these parameters are books, articles, and journals that are trademarked and copyrighted. But OpenAI hasn't paid a cent for this IP.
💡But, this is all coming to a head:
So companies like Canva are searching for new, legal methods to get the data they need to train their AI products properly. And creators are being compensated for it.
