DHL aims to use sustainable aviation fuel for their air transport as part of their focus on carbon "insetting".
👉 Background: DHL is a logistics company that provides services like courier, and package delivery. It was started in Germany in 1969 and is now operating in over 220 countries.
👉 What happened: Lately, DHL’s Aussie arm has started using sustainable aviation fuel to run some of their airline activity. This is fuel made from things like household and industrial waste, certain crops or algae. But, at the moment, sustainable aviation fuel only accounts for about 0.01% of the global jet fuel market.
👉 What else: Their aim is to use 30% sustainable aviation fuel for all their air transport by 2030 and it's all part of their focus on carbon “insetting”.
💡Doing more good is a whole lot better than doing less bad. Carbon insetting is where a company implements nature-based solutions to reduce their carbon footprint (think: renewable energies and reforestation).
💡On the other hand, carbon offsetting is where a company may plant trees to make up for pollution. Recently, we've seen a crack down on companies trying to do 'less bad' by just offsetting their carbon emissions.
💡And with air travel contributing 2.5% to the world's total greenhouse pollutions, it’s definitely a good industry for carbon insetting.
