Mixed emotions: Ford just fired 3000 people, but it's to help save the planet apparently

Ford is firing 3000 of its white collar employees as a part of the company's transition to EVs.

What's the key learning?

  • Ford has been through a lot of changes, having closed down local production in Australia that resulted in 1200 job losses
  • In its transition to electric vehicles, Ford fired 3,000 more of its employees in the US
  • These redundancies send a clear message to Ford’s staff, shareholders and competition that its future is electric

👉 Background: Ford, the car manufacturer started back in 1903 and pretty much invented the modern approach to assembly line car manufacturing.

👉 What happened: Ford has been through a lot of changes over the years, including when they closed down local production in Australia, and 1200 Aussies lost their jobs. Now it’s more job losses for Ford, this time in the US.

👉 What else: Ford has showed a whopping 3,000 white collar employees the door. These job losses are collateral damage in Ford's transition from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles.

What's the key learning?

💡When it comes to electric vehicles, it’s no longer a question of ‘if’, but of ‘when’. These redundancies send a clear message to Ford’s staff, shareholders and competition that its future is electric.

💡While Ford has committed to ensuring half its global production will be EVs but 2030, it's actually still way behind its competitors. You've got...

💡So despite the fact that Ford is clearly making some big changes… it needs to make some even bigger ones if it's going to catch up.
