There'll be Ford Blue and Ford Model E... 'cos sometimes two really is better than one.
Background: Carmakers have been racing to create their own fleets of electric cars. We've had Telsa set the trend, and now big names like General Motors, Volkswagen and Ford are shifting gears to make up for lost time.
What happened: Now, Ford's splitting its car business into two seperate units: Ford Blue (for traditional petrol and diesel cars) and Ford Model E (for new electric models).
What else: Ford say Model E can act like a startup and be growth-focused, while its Blue division can hold the fort and support existing customers.
💡Ford is an old-school business, with an old-school business model. For an older business needs to evolve, sometimes it is easier to split its parts into two.
💡Rather than trying to shift the focus of all staff, and change all processes and priorities within the one company, it can be more effective (and efficient) to split off and create a new division.
💡The new division can then act like an entirely new company, with new staff and new processes...and ultimately reach the end-goal quicker.
