Here are some tips to build your financial confidence in the new financial year!
Does your heart start racing and your mind go blank when someone mentions ‘finances’? You’re not alone!
Unless you grow up in an environment where money was a dinner table topic, it can feel overwhelming to understand and can feel even more awks to talk about.😬
It doesn’t help that school was teaching you pythagoras theorem instead of how to save, invest and do your taxes!
But you don’t have to feel this way forever. Building financial confidence is not about being rich, it’s about feeling in control. And today we’ll be showing you how you can do this with just a few simple steps!
🎬 First, Know Your Money Origin Story
Just like every superhero has a backstory, so does your relationship with money.
Think about what you learned growing up. Did your family save every dollar? Spend like it’s payday every day? Avoid talking about money entirely like it was Voldemort?
Most people unconsciously developed their money habits by observing how the adults around them handled money. So your habits now, whether you’re a stress-spender or money hoarder, probably trace back to those early experiences.
Understanding what your money habits are and how you got them is the first step to making money more #relatable and a whole lot more manageable.
💌 Schedule Money Dates (Yes, With Yourself)
You can’t feel in control of your money if you don’t know what’s going on. That’s like trying to drive with your eyes closed (spoiler: not ideal).
So, set a weekly “money date.” Light a candle, grab a coffee, open your banking app, and peek at your payslip, transactions, and account balance. It might feel cringe at first, but we promise, confidence lives on the other side of clarity.
Tip: If you hate spreadsheets, you can use budgeting apps to help gamify the experience and remove some of the money anxiety. Flux has a spending tracker with nice categories and pretty graphs - not scary at all!
🎧 Learn Money, Your Way
If you think you have to read boring finance books to become financially confident, think again.
There are podcasts, YouTube series, TikToks, and yes, even Netflix documentaries, that break down finance in plain, relatable language.
Pick your vibe and commit to learning just one new thing a week. You'll be surprised how fast terms like “compound interest” go from scary to satisfying.
The Flux app also has short Academy courses and weekly articles with money memes to make finance actually fun.
To recap, financial confidence is a vibe, not a bank balance. So start small, stay curious, and do it with a friend to share the money glow-up. You’ve got this! 💸✨
