Sliding into the DMs is about to take on a whole new meaning... all because Meta has taken the shopping integration one step further.
👉 Background: Instagram’s parent company Meta has been focussing on the shopping side of social media for a little while now. Back in 2020 it launched ‘shops’ across Facebook and Instagram, which allowed businesses to create mini online stores within the platforms.
👉 What happened: Now Meta’s taken the shopping integration one step further by bringing it to the DMs. Sliding into the DMs is about to take on a whole new meaning…
👉 What else: Now you'll be able to use the IG DMs to order a custom vase from your fave online artisan... or anything else you want really.
💡As one business model shows weakness, others need to step up. Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen advertising on major social media apps like Facebook and Snap drop significantly.
💡Meta is looking at instant messages for businesses as a new frontier of opportunity, and a new source of revenue. Over time, Instagram has morphed into an instant shopping destination with over 200 million businesses on the platform.
💡 So Meta is looking at new ways to provide value for businesses.. And while ads was the first frontier.. Messaging and payments seems to be the next.
