Our two gaming faves are coming together, but they won't be part of the metaverse.
👉 Background: Nintendo is the gaming powerhouse behind all our fave nineties and noughties games, like Pokémon, Mario and Animal Crossing. They're also the makers of Wii Sports and the Switch.
👉 What happened: Now, the 133-year-old Japanese gaming lords have released Nintendo Switch Sports, which is, as the name implies, a merge between two of its most successful offerings 🤝.
👉 What else: It ain't just a game, you can also interact with friends - without the use of a VR headset. Don't you dare call it the metaverse, because Nintendo wants no part in that right now.
💡Swimming against the tide is often the most courageous decision of all... or sometimes the silliest.
💡It seems like all gaming companies are talking about the metaverse, but not everyone wants - or needs - to get in on it. Fortnite owner Epic Games raised $1 billion to work on it, and Facebook even changed its name to Meta.
💡While the metaverse has a lot of potential, it's not for everyone. Nintendo has its own unique approach to virtual interaction with its little Wii characters - they don't need headsets or special technology. That's why they don't think they need the metaverse.
