Optus is launching SubHub, a one-stop-shop for subscriptions and memberships

Having too many subscriptions is a peak millennial problem - and Optus is here to solve it.

What's the key learning?

  • The average Aussie has more than 5 subscriptions.
  • Optus - Australia's second-biggest telco - is launching SubHub, a tool to house all your subscriptions under one roof.
  • It's exclusive to Optus customers, and it gives Aussies control over their subscriptions.
  • It's part of their plan to become Australia's most-loved brand, rather than just a telco.

Optus is Australia's second-biggest telco, with more than 6 million Aussie customers and a market cap of around $40 billion (woah).

These guys have noticed a very peak-millennial problem - the average household has more than 5 subscriptions, and we can't keep track of what we have, or how much $$$ we're paying.

The solution? SubHub, an Optus-customer-ONLY tool to host all your subscriptions in one place, trial new subscriptions or bundle your subscriptions together at a discount.

So what's the key learning?

Exclusivity + control = becoming the most-loved brand. It's tried and tested, folks.

In marketing, there's something called the scarcity principle. Basically, the more rare or unattainable something is, the more valuable it is. Combine that with our constant need to control things for best results.

Optus is providing us with a one-stop-shop to control our purchases AND it's only exclusive to Optus customers. Which means they've got us hook, line and sinker.
