Optus has announced a new partnership with Starlink, and this is kicking NBN to the curb.
👉 Background: Optus is the second-largest carrier in the country - as of last year, they had over 10 million subscribers. But after last year's major cyberattack to their 10 million customers, it's fair to say they have a lot of making-up to do.
👉 What happened: Now, Optus has announced a new partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet company that's operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX. Optus reckons this partnership will enable its mobile customers to send texts from the most remote corners of Australia by the end of next year.
👉 What else: Optus isn't the only telco company that Starlink has partnered with - they've also got a deal with Telstra. And these cheeky partnerships are kicking the Aussie government's telecommunications operator NBN to the curb.
💡Where there's a will, there's a way. And when there's a genuine demand, the market finds a way.
💡The NBN is an optical fibre network that provides internet coverage across Australia... but the technology of the NBN is relatively slow and has copped a LOT of criticism. It isn't really a match for Starlink, which has more satellites in space.
💡So clearly, when there's a need in the market, and a government service isn't efficient, businesses jump in and offer solutions that are faster and better.
