Qantas' shopping spree is going strong, with the crew acquiring Byron-based TripADeal and let the good times soar

Now there will be even more ways to use your Frequent Flyer points.

What's the key learning?

  • Loyalty programs are valuable for all airlines.
  • But, programs need good partners (like TripADeal) to be valuable.

👉 Background: TripADeal is a Byron Bay based online travel booking company founded back in 2011. The company has has arranged travel packages for over half a million Aussies everywhere from the Maldives to Antarctica.

👉 What happened: Qantas' Loyalty business has made its biggest acquisition ever by acquiring a 51% majority stake in TripADeal. Qantas also has the option to acquire the other 49% of the company in the future.

👉 What else: This deal is part of the flying kanga's plans to expand its loyalty program... and become even more sticky 🍯.

🔔 What's the key learning?

💡 Loyalty programs are the ‘jewels in the crown’ for all airlines 👑. Qantas' Frequent Flyer program has nearly 13 million customers and it has been Qantas' most valuable division through thick and thin... COVID or no COVID.

💡 But the program needs good partners with good point redemption options to be valuable... Like using your points to buy home appliances or upgrade to business class.

💡 OR using your points to get a travel package... Which wasn't possible before. So, acquiring the TripADeal stake expands the uses of Qantas' loyalty program.
