The flying kanga is trading in its old-school memorabilia for new-school NFTs.
Background: Qantas has hit some turbulence over the last couple of years. We're talkin' COVID (all the strains)... and then a war in Eastern Europe.
What happened: Now, Qantas is going where no other ASX200 company has gone before... NFT-land.
What else: Qantas will sell a set of NFTs featuring its historic aircrafts later this year. They'll be in four price points: first, business, premium economy and economy. So the NFT trend is well and truly catching on.
💡 NFTs have exploded over the last two years, but it ain't just a celebrity fad anymore. Yes, we've got Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton releasing them... but we've also had reputable organisations get in on the fun.
💡Tennis Australia launched its own NFTs for the Aussie Open (and made a cheeky $2 million from it). And the International Cricket Council offered video highlights of cricket stars as NFTs.
💡Qantas is the first blue-chip Aussie company to go down the NFT route. Only time will tell whether this a solid idea... or a temporary hype bubble.
