Reddit is doubling down on ads, betting authentic human opinions will outperform AI-generated content for brands.
Background: Reddit is the social media platform often called "the front page of the internet." It's built around forum-style discussions where users share opinions on just about everything from legal advice to restaurant recommendations. It has more than 25 billion posts and comments and is now valued at roughly $33 billion /usd.
What happened: Reddit generated around $625 million USD in advertising revenue in Q1 2026 and is now making a bigger push into ads. It is now introducing a range of new advertising products built around what it calls "community intelligence." Basically, brands will be able to place ads for their products in the threads where Reddit users are already asking for recommendations.
What else: While other platforms are leaning harder into AI-generated marketing, Reddit is betting that authentic human opinions may end up being far more valuable than AI slop.
What's the key learning?
💡 The more AI takes over the internet... the more valuable real human opinion becomes. Authentic human insights and conversations are becoming increasingly valuable, especially for users looking for trustworthy recommendations.
💡 That's because low quality, high-volume AI content–often called "AI slop" is flooding feeds on social platforms. According to research from Kapwing, 20% of content shown to a freshly opened YouTube account is now low-quality AI video.
💡 Reddit's real value isn't just the platform itself... it's the humans actively sharing opinions and experiences inside its communities. As AI content fatigue grows, that kind of authentic human intelligence could become one of the most valuable things brands can tap into.
