Roblox is partnering with a game to help treat ADHD, so say goodbye to those 'no screen-time' rules

Roblox and Akili are joining forces for an innovative venture and we're in!

What's the key learning?

  • Health and gaming have been converging for some time.
  • Now the FDA and investors are getting on board.

👉 Background: Roblox is the online gaming platform that allows users to play games created by other users. Developers can monetise their games, with some earning as much as US$1 million in a single year.

👉  What happened: Roblox has partnered with a gaming company called Akili Interactive that functions as a treatment for ADHD to dish out in-game rewards. Think badges, avatars, pets and more.

👉 What else: The hope is that patients and families find it empowering to show off their winnings in Roblox. How's that for a new use case for video games? 👾

🔔 What's the key learning?

💡 Health and gaming have been converging for some time….but now we’re seeing an emerging industry of digital medicine - or games-as-health-care.

💡This is more than Wii Fit or Just Dance - regulators are starting to recognise the benefits created by interactive entertainment. In the US, the FDA is starting to approve virtual therapies for things like PTSD and ADHD.

💡Investors are getting on board too. In fact, Akili's even got plans to merge with a SPAC company at a $ billon valuation later this year!
