Sportsbet spent a whopping $64 million on TV ads during live sport and racing events.
👉 Background: Sportsbet is the largest online bookmaker in Australia. But it didn't get there by sitting on its hands...
👉 What happened: In just the last 18 months, Sportsbet spent a whopping $64 million on TV ads during live sport and racing events - more than three times what their rivals Tabcorp and Ladbrokes spent. And that also excludes in-stadium ads or jersey sponsorships...
👉 What else: This report by Nielsen comes at an interesting time, with the Federal government currently considering bans on all gambling ads.
💡Businesses operating in sectors with potential societal harms need to be prepared for tight regulations. These are companies that operate in the 'sindustries' (or sin industries), like tobacco, alcohol and gambling.
💡 The government has banned pretty much all forms of tobacco ads and sponsorship. And there are regulations on when and where alcohol brands can advertise.
💡So it looks like betting companies are the next target on the government's agenda, especially as Australians bet more per-capita than any other country.
