TikTok has rolled out a new feature that limits the TikTok screen time for teens.
👉 Background: Tiktok has absolutely taken the social media world by storm. It grown from to over 150 countries and over 1 billion users in the past 6 years.
👉 What happened: In fact, the average TikTok user spends a whopping 95 minutes per day on the platform. And now, TikTok has rolled out a new feature that limits the TikTok screen time for users under the age of 18.
👉 What else: After 60 mins, the user will be prompted to enter a passcode and make an “active decision” to keep watching. And with family pairing, a parent can set screen time, restrict content and place restrictions on who their child can message on the app.
💡 Sometimes big news announcements have more to them than what meets the eye. While TikTok’s focus on wellbeing is a positive step forward, it is very nicely timed to coincide with a negative news story.
💡Recently, the US government voted to give the President power to ban TikTok in the US. So this 'positive' new feature may have been released to offset or mitigate the impact of the negative news.
💡Right now, TikTok needs to appeal to every single person over the age of 18 in the US - those who can strongly advocate against Joe Biden actually using his power to ban the app.
