As election fever rolls around to Oz, we're seeing social media platforms like TikTok step up their game.
Background: The Federal Election is fast approaching and the major parties are putting the final touches on their campaign pitches. Soon, we'll be hit with a tonne of political ads. Yay 🙄.
What happened: To help us navigate the election, TikTok will release an in-app election guide. It'll promote the importance of voting, explain where and how to vote... all supported by the Australian Electoral Commission.
What else: The platform will even introduce a specific election misinformation reporting button. Cos, ya know, we're all bit burned from Trump 2020.
💡 When it comes to politics, social media can either help inform prospective voters... or spread misinformation and hinder them.
💡 In the US 2016 election, social media platforms were used to drive misinformation. But in 2020, these platforms took a stand against the practice, pulling down videos, attaching misinformation labels and even pulling Trump's account.
💡 Now that election fever has rolled around to Australia, we're seeing social media platforms like TikTok step up their game here, too.
