Get ready for a creative streaming experience once these two start working together.
👉 Background: WarnerMedia (AKA Warner Bros.) is the 99-year-old Hollywood movie studio behind Harry Potter, Batman and - of course - the Looney Tunes. Discovery is...THE Discovery Channel 🌏 .
👉 What happened: WarnerMedia was bought by US telco AT&T back in 2018. But that wasn't a great fit (read: terrible). So now, it's merged with Discovery in a US$43 billion deal to create Warner Bros. Discovery. Yup, real original name.
👉 What else: Combined they'll have a very creative bank of intellectual property.
💡 Ownership of intellectual property is one of the most important factors in an entertainment company’s success. It's a highly competitive space, so having recognisable and loved brands can be key to attracting customers.
💡 Having IP rights to a broad range of content means that content can't be found elsewhere. Which also means the fans will come to you to watch it.
💡 Together, Warner and Discovery will have around 60,000 trademark rights. Neither of these companies could compete with giants like Disney and Netflix on their own, but together they come pretty close.
