The White House just put the crypto industry firmly in the naughty corner

Crypto uses the same amount of energy as all home computers in the US... and it's not looking good in the eyes of the government.

What's the key learning?

  • Emissions from crypto are similar to the diesel fuel emissions on railroads across the US
  • The White House says the industry should collab with the energy and environmental regs
  • Cryptocurrency promotes itself as an alternative to fiat currency and the strict regulation of governments

👉Background: Back in March, the White House commissioned a report on crypto mining to figure out just how bad it is for the environment. Now the report is in and the numbers ain’t looking too good.

👉 What happened: In the US, crypto uses the same amount of energy as all home computers. And emissions from crypto are similar to the diesel fuel emissions on railroads across the US... aka, it's pretty bad.

👉 What else: The White House says the industry should collab with the energy and environmental regs to build industry standards or risk being regulated unilaterally. But the crypto world never LOVED working with the government…  in fact that’s pretty much its whole point.

What's the key learning?

💡Cryptocurrency advocates and governments are facing a unique moment in time. Work together to build a collab better than Nike and Michael Jordan, or become worse foes than Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh.

💡We know that cryptocurrency promotes itself as an alternative to fiat currency and the strict regulation of governments, so it might be hard for them to come around.

💡 If cryptocurrencies don't embrace self-regulation to become greener, the US government could seriously lay down the law. And with 38% of global bitcoin mining done in the US, this could have an enormous impact on the crypto industry.
