Wisetech saw its revenue grow 35% to just under $380 million for the last six months.
👉 Background: WiseTech Global was founded back in 1994. It does all those complicated logistics activities like helping with supply chain management, customs clearance, and forwarding services.
👉 What happened: Wisetech saw its revenue grow 35% to just under $380 million for the last six months. And even better, its net profit jumped by 41%. But what’s even more interesting is the way in which WiseTech was able to achieve these results.
👉 What else: On the one hand, they made two major acquisitions recently for $230 million and $414 million. And on the other hand, they secured some major contracts with huge transport groups. A little bit of organic growth and a little bit of inorganic growth too.
💡Organic growth is all about expanding your business from within, while inorganic growth is about buying other businesses to grow your own.
💡While companies generally look to grow organically, there comes a time in a company’s maturity when acquisitions become appealing.
💡WiseTech has completed more than 40 acquisition deals since March 2016 to grow its business. And while some analysts have criticised them for the focus on inorganic growth, it kinda seems to be working right now.
