Woolworths has just pledged to replace its entire fleet of petrol delivery trucks with EVs by 2030.
👉 Background: We know Woolworths as Australia's largest supermarket chain with over 2,200 stores. But you may not know that they've spent the past two years testing a couple of electric vehicle (EV) trucks.
👉 What happened: Now, Woolworths has just pledged to replace its entire fleet of petrol delivery trucks with EVs by 2030. The baby step? 27 new EVs on the Sydney streets within months. But the real goal: replace the whole 1,200 car fleet by 2030.
👉 What else: Let's not ignore the elephant in the room though...Commercial EV technology and infrastructure is very much still developing.
💡Early customer adoption gives companies the chance to gain a competitive advantage and lead the industry, but it also comes with a unique set of risks.
💡With this push into the electric fleet, Woolworths is venturing into relatively uncharted territory. It is likely to face a range of obstacles, like tech limitations, public infrastructure limitations, or even regulatory changes.
💡In fact, Amazon has quietly removed its "Shipment Zero" initiative to make half its shipments carbon neutral by 2030. So it will be interesting to see if Woolies actually get to this target... Or sloooowly backtrack like the Zon.
