Roblox is allowing users to sell "full avatar bodies and heads" within the game.
👉 Background: Roblox is the online gaming platform that really took the world by storm during COVID. It provides a marketplace for developers to build games and there are over 40 million games within Roblox... kinda like a gaming App Store. And over 65 million daily active users playing these games.
👉 What happened: Now, Roblox is going one step further by allowing users to sell "full avatar bodies and heads" within the game... And these Roblox creators will take 30% of the avatar sale. 40% of the sale will go to the owner of where the virtual items are sold, and the remainder to Roblox HQ.
👉 What else: This is just another way for Roblox to use user-generated content to help people build businesses on Roblox. Good for users, great for Roblox
💡User-generated content unlocks infinite possibilities, when done right. A platform that allows UGC lets users contribute to the platform, but also profit from their creations.
💡Typically, we think of UGC on social media platforms when people post photos or comments. But this is no different to a platform like Roblox. Replace photos with games.. and comments with avatars.
💡By allowing users to sell unique virtual goods, they not only boost income but also increase loyalty. And this makes the platform more appealing compared to its rivals, like Meta's Horizon Worlds and Epic Games' Fortnite.
