TikTok is rly saying LOOK AT MOI as it trials a new distraction-free mode

Your attention is valuable and TikTok is vying for it more than ever.

What's the key learning?

  • We're now operating in the attention economy, where your attention is ultra-valuable.
  • TikTok hopes to keep your attention for longer my removing distractions.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Background: It's already real easy to get stuck in a TikTok-hole, but TikTok is constantly working on new features to make the app experience even better and more personalised.

๐Ÿ‘‰ ย What happened: The app is testing a new feature called 'Clear Mode' that gets rid of all the clutter on screen while you view videos. Think captions and buttons. You won't even see usernames or audio info ๐Ÿ˜ฎ.

๐Ÿ‘‰ What else: Currently, TikTok users spend an average of 52 minutes each day on the app. This feature is being tested only with select users at the moment, but if it gets rolled out further it could be a game changer to capture our attention even more.

๐Ÿ”” What's the key learning?

๐Ÿ’ก Welcome to the attention economy - where every brand and company views your attention as a kind of currency.

๐Ÿ’ก There are endless amounts of info at our fingertips (think: social media, streaming platforms, podcasts). Our attention is the gateway to absorbing that information... and it's pretty limited (we're talkin' 8 seconds! That's shorter than a goldfish).

๐Ÿ’ก And it's only getting shorter, making it more valuable. So by limiting our distractions while consuming content, TikTok might be holding on to our attention, which benefits them in the long term.
